WARNING!!! Our competitors are renting unsafe sumo suits!
It has come to our attention that there are several local competitors renting sumo wrestling equipment that is extremely dangerous. Avoid rental companies who rent inflatables sumo suits at all costs. Sumo suits should be made of thick foam padding just like ours. Padding should be not only in the stomach, but also in the legs and arms. 99% of rental companies that carry sumo suits, only have padding in the stomach. Our sumo suits have padded legs and arms. Without padded arms and legs, the only cushion between you is a sheet of thin vinyl. Speaking of thin vinyl, make sure that the sumo wrestling mat is padded with a dense foam core. Many sumo wrestling mats are simply sheets of vinyl and not professional mats like ours. Mats should be at minimum 16 feet wide by 16 feet long like ours. Anything less than this size increases the chance of falling off the mat tenfold. Another over looked sumo accessory is the sumo mittens or sumo gloves. These are placed over the hand to prevent damage to your opponents face including scratching, poking of eyes, punching, etc. Again most of our competition does not include sumo wrestling mittens or gloves in their sumo rental package. Last but not least, sumo suits should include a velcro fold for easy entrance and exit in and out of the suit. If the back of the sumo suit involves a shoelace, there is chance for it to knot and for an individual to become entrapped. This is dangerous in the warm months when it is hot out. Last but not least, many rental companies do not carry insurance on their sumo suits. They may carry insurance on other products, but their insurance company does not cover sumo wrestling. We are fully insured and state certified by the Illinois DOL Amusement & Safety Division!
